How a Keratin Treatment is Performed
Step 1
Opening the Cuticle
The treatment begins with a clarifying shampoo that gently lifts the overlapping scales of the cuticle, the hair’s outer layer. This step prepares the strand and creates a pathway to the inner cortex.
Step 2
Penetrating the Cortex
A keratin solution containing hydrolyzed proteins is carefully applied. These proteins are broken down into small enough molecules to pass through the lifted cuticle and reach the cortex — the part of the hair responsible for strength, color, and texture.
Step 3
Bonding & Sealing
This is the most crucial stage. Heat from a flat iron activates a thermal reaction, bonding the keratin solution to the hair’s natural keratin. It fills porous, weakened areas, eliminating frizz and restoring strength. At the same time, the cuticle is sealed flat, creating a smooth surface.
